I was motivated to create this painting because, at the time, I didn't have much experience painting water or other bodies of water. I also wanted to depict what, in my opinion, would be a sight to see when observing the transition between the signs of nighttime leaving and a new day emerging because I don't get many opportunities to pay attention to that occurrence. Because I only had eight or fewer colors of paint left at the time, I decided to utilize purple to create a monochromatic aesthetic. I also thought purple would work beautifully in matching the shapes of the paint strokes to contribute to the feelings of warmth and tranquility.
